Product Description: Boston Lighthouse was first built in the United States. Its flame was lit for the first time in 1716. To finance its operation, it was decided to charge a tax on light according to the tonnage of the ships. At the beginning of the War of Independence, American troops removed the lamps from the lantern and burned the building to prevent the British from using the signal. The British attempted to repair the tower but were repulsed by American forces. When they evacuated Boston, the British bombarded the lighthouse. At the end of the war, the Massachusetts legislature adopted a budget for the reconstruction of the lighthouse on the island. Currently, Boston lighthouse is monitored by Coastguard of the United States.
